ABOUT THE ARTIST
Meet Sarah Larsen
Sarah Larsen (b. April 20, 1984) is an American contemporary artist born and raised in Grand Island, Nebraska. After opening a second studio in Baltimore, Maryland in 2022, she permanently relocated to the East Coast in 2023, where the region's forests, waterways, and changing seasons continue to shape her artistic practice.
Working primarily with acrylic paint, alcohol ink, synthetic film, canvas, and pen, Larsen creates abstract compositions defined by organic, flowing linework inspired by the interconnectedness of nature, relationships, and human experience. Her paintings explore themes of growth, vulnerability, healing, love, and transformation, inviting viewers to discover their own narratives within each piece. Every work is intentionally left open to interpretation, encouraging a deeply personal connection between the artwork and its audience.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
An Intuitive Creative Process
Guided by line, color and movement
Larsen's creative process is equally distinctive. She begins by intuitively pouring and manipulating acrylics and alcohol inks, allowing the materials to react naturally before responding with intricate linework applied using refillable acrylic and ink pens. Rather than controlling every outcome, she embraces the chemistry between the mediums, allowing chance and intuition to guide each composition. The resulting works balance spontaneity with precision, creating visual landscapes that feel simultaneously delicate and alive.
A self-taught artist, Larsen won Miami Art Week's "Best Booth Design" at Spectrum Miami, has been chosen to exhibit at MvVO AD ART SHOW Clio Awards and published in their collaboration with TIME Magazine, Her work was featured on HGTV's House Hunters. She was been held multiple interviews, been featured in several publications, books, and has exhibited in countless galleries and art fairs nationally, having been selected by Artsy for their Winter "Foundations" show. In 2024, she joined Baltimore's XOXO Gossip Girl Collective, furthering her commitment to fostering contemporary artists and creative community.
